Welcome to another edition of Money While You Sleep. Hope everyone had a good February. For us unfortunately when it rains it pours, our families lost another two family members. We lost our Yia-Yia Maria (Grandmother) on my wife’s side and my Grandma Phyllis on the same day. As most people would agree Grandmas are the best and we will miss them dearly.

Portfolio details:

Not too much action this month but did make some good steps so we can take advantage of opportunity in the future. Here is what we did:

• Added $1k into Maria’s TFSA
• Another lump sum of $5K into the RRSP to help with tax relief before the deadline of Feb 28
• Added 36 shares in HSUV.U.TO (Basically a high interest savings account that pays 4.95%)

Here’s a breakdown of portfolio allocation:

January breakdown 77.8% Blue Chip, 12.7% Growth and 9.5% Cash

Cash position is slightly higher as a majority of the 9.5% is being held in USD. Those USD are locked up in HSUV.U.TO so we can gain some interest until were ready to add to our next company.

Dividend increases and decreases

• MFC increased dividend 11%
• BEPC increased dividend 5.5%
• EQB increased dividend 5%

Nice month after the AQN cut in January.

2023 Dividends

Dividends came in at $335.22. This is a year over year increase of 15.12%. We also dripped 5 new shares. We have set out our annual goal of $6,000 for 2023. Playing this one more conservative with inflation on the rise, heavier cash position, potential smaller dividend increases across the board and taking longer than usual to fund TFSA accounts. We are 13% to our goal after the first two months.
